Inform: An Adventure Game Compiler
Inform is generally considered to be the best free adventure game compiler. In most peoples' view the only better compiler is High Energy Software's shareware TADS (Text Adventure Design System). Bob Newell wrote a detailed comparison of TADS 2.1.2 and Inform 5.2, coming to the conclusion is that for most purposes there is little to choose between the two.
